OPVL Exercise-The First Arab-Israeli War
The goal of this exercise is to familiarize students with the documents related to the end of the British Mandate and the Partition of Palestine. Students will build on their prior knowledge on the subject, based on their annotated readings, journal writings, and in-class discussions. Students should also review the OPVL Rubric before beginning the exercise. Working in groups, but producing their own work, students will begin by conducting an in-class reading of three primary sources. Upon completion, students should post their OPVL analysis to their portfolios & share with their colleagues via Del.icio.us. The following documents are to be read and analyzed:
- “State of Israel Proclamation of Independence” Document 4-1 (pp. 109-110)
- “UN General Assembly Resolution 194 (III) Adopted on 11 December 1948 [Excerpts]” Document 4-2 (pp. 111)
